Selection Process

A rigorous 4-tier selection process ensures only the best ideas are funded.

01
1

Eligibility Check

Initial screening by the BIG Partner to ensure the applicant meets all administrative criteria, including company incorporation status, shareholding patterns, and access to a functional R&D facility.

02
2

Preliminary Selection (PSC)

Subject matter experts review the proposal online. They evaluate the project based on technical viability, novelty, commercial potential, and the team's capability to execute the proof of concept.

03
3

Technical Evaluation (TEP)

Shortlisted applicants present their proposal to a Technical Evaluation Panel (TEP). This involves a detailed Q&A session focusing on the scientific principles, experimental design, and technical milestones.

04
4

Expert Selection (ESC)

The final round involves a pitch to the Expert Selection Committee (ESC). The focus here shifts to business strategy, market fit, commercialization roadmap, and the potential impact of the innovation.

05
5

Due Diligence

Verification of legal documents, financial health, and technical claims. This often includes a site visit to the applicant's premises to verify the existence of the R&D facility and infrastructure.

06
6

Funding Award

Upon successful due diligence, the Grant-in-aid Letter Agreement (GLA) is signed between BIRAC, the BIG Partner, and the Startup. The first tranche of the grant is subsequently released.
